Trail access may be gained at several trails heads located along US 40 at German Church Road, Carroll Road, CR 700 W and CR 600 W. The Pennsy Trail in Cumberland connects to Marion County to the west and can be enjoyed all the way to downtown Indianapolis.
Opened in 2010, the Cumberland Pennsy Trail is a treasure in our town, preserving the rich legacy of the Pennsylvania Railroad corridor while offering endless opportunities for walking and biking. This Trail is part of the National Road Heritage Trail, the path once traveled by the funeral train of Abraham Lincoln en route to Indianapolis. You will also find that the Pennsy Trail has a scale Solar System Model, providing an incredible learning experience. Plus, the new Music on Pennsy Pocket Park is located along the Pennsy Trail between S. County Line Rd. and S. 700 W, and features an array of nature-themed musical playground equipment, ground mural, and seating.
